Basics Cooperative Natural Foods

Mon-Sat 8am-7pm, Sun 9am-5pm

In 1977, two Janesville locals, Peter Roang and Deb Ramsdell, co-founded Basics Natural Foods. It was one of the first up and coming natural foods stores in the United States and, more importantly, it was the first store of its kind in Janesville.
The idea was to create a better world through a better diet, because a better diet means better people leading to sustainable practices of food production. The cooperative built their foundation on seven principles: education, training, and information, community concern, cooperation among cooperatives, democratic member control, voluntary open membership, member economic participation, and autonomy and independence.
Basics Cooperative Natural Foods stocks products that are grown or produced in Wisconsin or within one hundred miles of their location, certified organic, cruelty free, and abstains from genetically modifying their food. Don’t just take my word for it, read their website for yourself and see all the procedures Basics Cooperative Natural Foods takes from buying to stocking and selling.
